English as an Additional Language Program (EAL)

The goal of AAG's EAL Department is to support those students who require additional language assistance while studying in English. EAL students must be able to function at a high academic level in English in order to be successful in their studies. EAL students typically come from a multi-lingual environment or one where English is not the mother-tongue.

Assistance can be awarded within the regular classroom setting or through scheduled EAL class as required . It is the role of the EAL teacher to identify EAL students and to continuously assess their progress. In addition, EAL teachers also assist other teachers in developing strategies within the mainstream class to help the students access the curriculum and perform to their fullest potential.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center provides academic support for students who require either assistance with the mainstream curriculum or extension of the curriculum. The Learning Support program is provided through in-class support as well as through special classes. In addition, the Learning Center assists and plans with our teachers to ensure that the needs of all students are being met.

Library Media Center

The mission of the Library Media Center is to foster students who use ideas and information effectively and have an appreciation for literature and other creative expressions of information. Elementary students are exposed to the Library's resources and mission through a library media program. Middle and high school students visit the library and receive instruction in support of their research, reading activities, and programs.

School Counseling

Our advisory program, under the direction of the AAG Guidance Counselor, provides the girls with opportunities to meet with both their peers and an advisor to discuss topics relating to academic, personal, and social development.

The school counselor is responsible for the coordination of guidance programs within the school and community. These programs focus on preventive and responsive programs and services, principally concerned with the personal, social, educational, and career needs of all students.

  • Personal: to understand and appreciate oneself
  • Social: to relate effectively to others
  • Educational: to develop appropriate educational plans
  • Career: to develop life and career plans

The school counselor conducts individual and group counseling along with programs such as anger management and social skill groups for the younger girls and college guidance for the high school students.

In addition, there are a number of recognition programs that foster a positive school environment. These programs include awards ranging from honors and high honors to Student of the Month awards. These awards recognize students who have demonstrated academic achievement, athletic performance, effort, good citizenship, cooperation, and service to the school and community.
